Is it normal to act as if your interested when you really are not, to the point it seems your really intrested?

How do you ignore someone, without getting any fraction over the situation, like you dont want to be mean and you cant help it, you force yourself to enjoy there company by any-means necessary, i mean they are not horrible people, you just rather pardon ways with them, without getting them feeling bad?
