Static Electricity in my home?

Recently, Ive had a problem with static electricity in my house. My hair is constantly static, and when do the vacuuming i get loads of really sharp shocks. Nothing obvious has changed in my home (not that I can think of), but its got worse over the last 2 weeks I suppose. I know it sounds a bit daft, but its really bothering me. Ive had the hoover a while (cylinder dyson) and it was fine before.
