Why is Adolf Hitler portrayed as being the most evil of all?

He is the one that most people know about--we aren't taught about the others. And while Hitler was horrific, you are correct in that Mao and Stalin were arguably more murderous. Keep in mind though, for progressives, it's easier to equate their opposition as Nazi like (which is nowhere near the truth), so this example is used most often.
